Wind Creek Casino Reopening
For Pennsylvania’s casinos, the least-restrictive phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s three-phased plan to reopen the state’s economy is designated by an apt color … green.

Wind Creek Bethlehem reopened at 6 a.m. 'We are here to have a place of escape for our guests and just to have some fun,' Corwin said. But like other businesses, they'll continue to follow. Parx Casino and Wind Creek Bethlehem will be able to resume operations next week because they are located in the two of the 13 counties that are hoped to be allowed to move on Friday to the green phase of reopening under Governor Tom Wolf’s three-phase plan. Under that plan, the third, green, phase is when all restrictions are lifted and non. Reopening House Rules. Don’t come to Wind Creek if you have a fever, a severe cough, or feel sick. Be prepared to have your temperature checked. If you are mad at the world (or some of the people in it), let the mood pass before you visit Wind Creek.
It’s a color representing money, something synonymous with gambling. While Pennsylvania’s economic shutdown has drastically hit almost all sectors, the gaming sector has felt that hit to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. They all closed more than two months ago as part of the state’s coronavirus mitigation efforts.
In May alone, that translated into an approximately $230 million drop in revenue compared to the same time last year, according Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board numbers. The loss would have been closer $290 million had there not been a surge in online gambling, the PLCB numbers show.
June will be a little better and July will likely be much better for the casinos provided there are no drastic changes in the coronavirus trends showing the number of Pennsylvania cases are declining.
As counties to the west and north of the Lehigh Valley enter the green phase, casinos have been allowed to reopen in accordance with the governor’s orders. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, which is outside of Harrisburg in Grantville, is opening its casino floor on Friday with a number of restrictions.
Mohegan Sun Pocono near Wilkes-Barre is set to open at 10 a.m. Monday, also with restrictions. “This reopening will include comprehensive safety and social distancing protocols, some of which include thermal temperature scans at all points of entry, protective mask requirements and limited guest capacity,” Mohegan Sun Pocono says in a statement.
Hollywood is in Dauphin County and Mohegan Sun is in Luzerne County. Both are among the eight counties that will enter the green phase on Friday. Monroe County, which hosts Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono, is also among those eight counties.
Mount Airy plans to reopen at noon Monday, a spokeswoman told lehighvalleylive.com. “The Mount Airy team has been diligently cleaning and sanitizing the entire property with EPA approved cleaning and sanitizing agents, and following CDC guidance for workplace cleanliness and safety to ensure that the property is clean and safe prior to reopening,” says a statement from the casino.
As for the Lehigh Valley’s only casino, Wind Creek Bethlehem, an exact opening date remains pending. A spokeswoman told lehighvalleylive.com that it should have an update later this week. It stands to reason that Wind Creek wouldn’t have a firm opening date. Northampton County, like neighboring Lehigh County, remains in the yellow phase of the state’s reopening plan and the Wolf Administration has yet to say when the county will drop down to the green phase. Casinos in Philadelphia and its suburbs are in the same situation.
For the Lehigh Valley, the Wind Creek reopening means more than just an opportunity for patrons to watch the roulette wheel spin, throw dice on the craps table and see another card turned in blackjack. Wind Creek, one of the Lehigh Valley’s largest employers, furloughed 2,100 employees at the start of June.
Even when it does reopen, the casino floor will have a much different feel. The PGCB on May 19 issued a series of protocols that casinos must follow if they are to reopen. Wind Creek, like Mohegan Sun and Mount Airy, will have to follow those protocols, which include limitations on capacity, mandatory masks and employee temperature checks. The complete list of protocols is available here on the PLCB website.

Bethlehem, PA, April 28, 2020
It’s been forty-five (45) days since we voluntarily closed our doors in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. A verycommon question heard frequently is “When is Wind Creek going to reopen?” And it comes from both guestsand team members in equal parts!
So, when will we reopen?
We don’t have a date yet, but I assure you, it will be the very first moment that we can provide guests and teammembers a fun and exciting experience without taking irresponsible public health risks. Our team is workingthrough many solutions and our plans are coming into focus.
Just like professional sports, restaurants, office buildings and amusement parks, you’ll see changes at WindCreek when we reopen. Like other businesses, we will be limiting the number of guests, stepping up thefrequency and intensity of sanitization, and increasing the use of PPE by our team members. We’ve beenworking diligently for the past few weeks to develop these plans, and we continue to fine tune them based onnew data from authorities. Once the details and our full reopening plans are ready, we will publish them on ourwebsites, our online casino (WindCreekCasino.com), and our social media outlets. And let’s be clear –throughout this process plans change as new information becomes available. So all of us need to be flexible aswe work our way through these times.
If the number of questions from our guests is any indication, I am sure demand for the Wind Creek experiencewill be high when we reopen. While I wish we could safely swing our doors open and invite everyone in all atonce, our reopening will be conducted in phases.
We will begin with a “soft reopening,” where we will invite small groups of guests to visit our properties to testout some of our new policies and procedures and ensure that they’ll work on a larger scale.
Once we believe we can accommodate more guests, we will reopen to the general public. We will still beoperating at reduced capacity and we don’t want the excitement of visiting our property spoiled due to waitingin line to get in. So we will offer a new reservation system for casino visits. This system will allow guests to“reserve” a day and time in advance and will allow us to always keep the number of guests and team memberson property and on the casino floor at a safe number. Please expect more information on this system soon.
Upon re-opening, you’ll notice reduced capacity in our restaurants to ensure proper distance. We will also bemaking changes to self-service areas of food service, limiting the number of guests in retail outlets, limitingsome services in our spas and fitness facilities, and making some changes in our hotels, valet parking, pools, bellservice, and other entertainment venues.
Reopening Wind Creek Casino In Atmore Al
We will continue to consult with health, regulatory, Tribal and commonwealth agencies so we can provide youand our team members the escape and fun environment expected from Wind Creek. Those same authorities arehelping inform our decision about the proper time to reopen. While it won’t be this Friday, May 1st, as you mayhave heard or read, we hope it will be soon.
When we reopen, our goal is to have a plan that will provide a smart and measured approach. It probably won’tbe perfect, and it will evolve once put into practice. But just as we erred on the side of caution for the health ofour guests and team members when we chose to close before government shutdowns went in place, we will useour own best judgment on when to reopen in order to protect the well-being of our team members, guests andsurrounding communities
Thank you for your continued support through this period. We look forward to seeing you in the very nearfuture at one of our Wind Creek properties. Stay safe.
